Mid-Carolina Launches New Community Leadership Council
For 85 years, Mid-Carolina Electric has brought our members advances that make a difference in their daily lives. As a long-standing community partner, we’re always looking for ways to strengthen our relationships with members and community leaders so that together we can improve things right here at home.
That’s the driver behind our newest program, the Mid-Carolina Electric Community Leadership Council. Geared toward members aged 30-45, the council is our way of getting to know the area’s younger residents, many of whom are our newest members, and introducing the community value of an electric co-op.
“The cooperative, member-owned utility model has been around for a long time, but younger residents in the area are not as familiar with the benefits of a non-profit power partner,” said Mid-Carolina Electric President and CEO Bob Paulling. “We want the council to bring young community leaders together to network, gain insight into the value of a community-driven power co-op, and talk with experts about power issues that impact us all—today and in the future.”
The Mid-Carolina Electric Community Leadership Council will consist of a new 12- to 16-member cohort each year and will meet for six interactive lunch sessions. Graduates of the program will be positioned to serve as ambassadors for the area’s community-cooperative partnership. Mid-Carolina will proudly make a $2,500 donation annually to a local nonprofit selected by each cohort.
“We’re excited to share what it means to be part of a member-owned energy provider,” said Troy Simpson, Mid-Carolina’s Vice President of Member Services. “It’s important our younger members, especially those passionate about community growth, understand how local governance and community reinvestment from their utility partner work together for the betterment of the area.”
Sessions for the first leadership cohort will begin January 2026, and members can apply here. Have questions? Reach out to communications@mcecoop.com
