Storm Restoration Update

Wednesday, October 9, 2024

While power has been restored for most of our members after Hurricane Helene, we're still working tirelessly to restore our members in areas with the most extensive storm damage.
Hundreds remain without power on Monday. These outages are primarily isolated to meters serving individual streets and homes, requiring significant manpower and resources to restore. Rest assured, Mid-Carolina Electric won’t stop until all members who can have their power restored are fully restored.
Here are some important reminders as we move forward with our restoration efforts this week:
➡️Extended Wait Times for Calls and Services
Many Mid-Carolina employees are still focused on storm restoration, which reduces the number of employees available to handle routine services. As we begin taking service calls today, please anticipate extended wait times for calls and delays for requests such as new service installations, outdoor lighting, and other routine matters.
To streamline your experience, many services can be completed online via our website or the SmartHub app, including payments and accessing account forms. We appreciate your patience and support. Updates on services and wait times will be provided as restoration efforts continue.
➡️Storm Debris Management
Trees and vegetation are the primary cause of power outages across Mid-Carolina's system, particularly during severe weather. Hurricane Helene caused significant damage due to fallen trees. Here’s what you need to know about debris removal:
Storm Debris Removal: Mid-Carolina and its contractors will cut fallen trees and other debris as necessary to clear power lines. However, we will only cut what is required to restore service. We do not remove or clean up storm debris from properties. Members are responsible for removing any leftover branches, wood, and brush from their properties.

➡️REMINDER: Mid-Carolina Electric Lobbies Remain Closed Until Further Notice
To allow all employees to focus on storm restoration in the hardest-hit areas, Mid-Carolina Electric's lobbies will remain closed until further notice. Our crews have made significant progress and are now concentrating on areas with severe damage.
Starting Monday, we will resume standard account management calls alongside outage-related inquiries. Please note that drive-thrus will also remain closed at this time.
Though our lobbies are temporarily closed, our commitment to serving you remains unwavering. Our lineworkers are working around the clock to restore power safely and quickly, and our behind-the-scenes teams continue to support these critical efforts. We are united in our goal of getting every member's power back on.
